Zero Energy Challenge
The Massachusetts New Homes with ENERGY STAR Program Sponsors are launching a new, high performance home-building pilot, the “Zero Energy Challenge,” to encourage builders and developers to design and construct homes, which use considerably less energy than traditional residential construction practices in the Commonwealth.
The pilot is a competition. Four select builders or developers will compete against each other to deliver single-family detached residences with the lowest score on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index. Three prizes will be awarded:
- Grand Prize – $25,000
- 1st runner-up – $15,000
- 2nd runner-up – $10,000
